KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ), together with its subsidiaries, is engaged in the operation of specialist hospitals. The Company?s hospitals segment also includes the support services companies, which have been principally providing services and supports the operations of the hospitals. These support services companies mainly comprise the provision of management services and pathology and laboratory services, marketing and distribution of pharmaceutical, medical and surgical products and operating a private nursing college. Other operations of the Company comprise import, export and distribution of pharmaceutical, medical and consumer healthcare products, and retail pharmacy. The Company has a network of 25 private specialist hospitals consisting of 19 in Malaysia, three in Indonesia, one in Bangladesh and two in Saudi Arabia. It treated approximately 1,956,303 outpatients and 196,291 inpatients during the year ended December 31, 2008.
