Rate Of Change (ROC): An oscillator that measures the percentage change between the latest price and the price “x” periods before. The value is calculated by subtracting the closing price of “x” periods before from the latest closing price and then divided by the closing price of “x” periods before.

Relative Strength Index (RSI): A popular oscillator developed by J. Welles Wilder. RSI measures the magnitude of recent gains to recent losses to determine the overbought and oversold condition of the market. RSI measures from 0 to 100 and a reading above 70 is considered to be overbought whereas a reading below 30 is considered oversold. When RSI are in overbought or oversold conditions and it begins to diverge from the price action, it is often an early warning if a potential trend reversal. RSI is typically used with 9 or 14 periods.

Resistance: Resistance is a price or a price zone that resembles a barrier which is expected to halt a price advance. It is the opposite of support.

Retracements: In a persistent trend, prices normally retrace the prior trend by a percentage amount before resuming its original trend. Popular retracements levels include 33%, 50% and 67%. Elliot wave analysis incorporates Fibonacci retracements of 38% and 62%.

Reversal patterns: Price pattern formations that indicates a reversal in the underlying prevailing trend. Most common continuation patterns include head and shoulders, double and triple tops and bottoms.

Runaway gap: A price gap that typically occurs around the midpoint of a strong market trend.
