[OTHERS] Ringgit‬ opens lower against US$ Friday

The ringgit opened lower against a rejuvenated US dollar Friday, said a dealer. At 9.16 am(0116gmt), the local unit was quoted at 4.0300/0350 against the dollar from Tuesday's close of 4.0200/0300. There was limited trading activity on July 6 and 7 here as the market was closed for the ‪#‎HariRayaAidilfitri‬ holiday. "It could be thinly traded today as many players are extending their holiday over the weekend," the dealer added. The local note traded mixed against other major currencies. It firmed up against the British pound to 5.2116/2205 from Tuesday's close of 5.2767/2914, and advanced against the euro to 4.4616/4688 from 4.4759/4886. The ringgit was lower against the Singapore dollar at 2.9881/9924 from 2.9747/9832, and softened against the yen at 3.9948/0002 from 3.9516/9634.

[OTHERS] SGX Singapore Closing Market Update

"OTHER than Noble's rights and shares, the rest of the market is still on holiday," said a dealer, perhaps a slight exaggeration given the spurt of interest in other second liners such as CNMC Goldmine. But that is a fairly accurate description of a Thursday session in which the Straits Times Index drifted to a 2.5-point loss at 2,862.17 in the wake of overnight, "Brexit"-induced selling Europe-wide. Over in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng closed one per cent higher while the Dow futures at 5pm gained 28 points. Turnover, however, was marginally above average at 1.6 billion units worth S$1.2 billion. The average worked out to S$0.75 per unit, a good indication of where the market's energies were directed. Excluding warrants, there were 188 rises versus 202 falls. Britain's June 23 vote to exit the European Union (EU), popularly known as "Brexit", was said to be weighing on stocks and driving money into safe havens and defensive markets. On Wednesday, European markets lost between 1-2 per cent and the British pound took a beating, although Wall Street closed higher.
